Brand New Welsh Festival on its Way Menter Caerffili are pleased to announce that they have recieved funding from the Caerphilly Hill and Valley Key Fund to begin a new and exciting project this year. The outcome of this project will be a brand new Welsh Festival called ‘Ffiliffest’ which will be held in Caerphilly town centre.
This year, the event will be held on the 26th and 27th of June on the Owain Glyndŵr playing fields on Crescent Road. There’ll be lots going on, including a variety of activities, entertainment, music and stalls by local businesses selling Welsh produce and crafts.
Menter Caerffili is currently working with other local groups and organisations to plan the festival. We are very eager to hear from individuals and community groups who are interesting in taking part in any way – how about holding a stall to promote your group? Or perhaps your choir or band would like to perform at the event?
We’re also eager to hear from individuals who would like to volunteer at the event by stewarding or helping to distribute leaflets. Whatever you might be able to offer, please contact us for a chat on 01443 820913 or email emilycole@mentercaerffili.org.
More information about Ffiliffest can be found here: http://caerffili.org/saesneg/ffiliffests.php

NEW.i.D. Community Play Become a part of NEW.i.D
'NEW.i.D' is the Welsh word for change, but you can also read the play title as New ID. The play deals with how stories and traditions are forgotten from generation to generation and how this effects our Welsh identity.
The play is set in a magical, underground hospital where myths and traditions go when they start to be forgotten in the modern Heads of the Valleys. Without this living memory, the only thing keeping them alive is the magical care of the fairies and the healing powers of an underground spring. The audience will get an unique insight into the modern world on two large on stage screens, through the eyes of the mythological creatures.
Things take a change for the worse at the magical hospital when younger generations of the modern Heads of the Valleys are born without a living memory of the legendary industrial age of coal, iron and steel. As these characters and traditions start flooding the waiting rooms, the fairies have to find an urgent solution. They will have to send some of the mythological creatures into the modern world to find solutions.
Every aspect of he play will be developed within the communities of the Heads of the Valleys under the guidance of Head4Arts in the form of workshops. At least 2000 people from the area will contribute to this unique theatrical performance that will combine live action on stage, original music and films, street performers and projections. The appointed artistic directors combine the theatric and acting expertise of Einir Sion (Satellite City; Con Passionate) and the technical and creative skills of TV Director/Producer Lleucu Meinir. The highly regarded Music Director, Helen Woods has been appointed to develop community choirs, song writing and gamelan workshops as well as composing the original music for the play and newly appointed set/costume designer, Suzi Dorey will bring an unique creative flair to the play with her modern twist.

St. David's Day Twmpath This year Menter Caerffili’s St. David’s Day Twmpath was held at a new location, namely The Greenfly, in Bedwas. Over 80 people came to the event from all over the world: Malta, New Zeland & America.
The room with it’s large dancefloor was a perfect size. The tickets were a bargain at £5 each which included two way transport, entry to the twmpath and a variety of cheese, bread and biscuits.
Dawnswyr Nantgarw supplied the entertainment, and started the eveing with several traditional folk dances, then everyone had the chance to twmpath. Everyone really enjoyed themselves, and we also got to hear the name and history of each dance.
The break allowed people to catch their breath, and enjoy all sorts of cheese, including Caerphilly (of course), Welsh cheddar, brie and others, before returning to the dancing.
Many thanks to everyone who purchased tickets. It was especially nice to see so many new faces.

Trip to Aberystwyth We enjoyed a day of sunshine and ice cream last week in Aberystwyth. We went on a guided tour of the national library where we saw some of the oldest Welsh manuscripts and original paintings by Kyffin Williams, as well as seeing how the Library stores the millions of old books, maps, paintings and photographs which are kept there. After visiting the Library, we had time to explore the town and its shops before going to Aberaeron on the way home for ice cream. Thanks to ‘Phil The Bus’ for driving all that way, to Emyr for leading the tour of the Library, and to everyone who came for their company!
