‘Croeso
Calcutta’
An exchange project to raise awareness through comparing
lifestyles in Calcutta and Wales. The project is run by Christian
Aid and Urdd Gobaith Cymru. Kelly-Marie Angel and Rhiannon
Barber form Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni will be taking part in
this voluntary project. In order for the project to take place
the girls have to raise £600 each.
The girls will be visiting the shelters and speaking with
the women and children who have been sold to work as prostitutes.
Many of these women and children have contracted HIV and other
STDs. The women and children are not aware of their illness.
The shelters educate these women and children about their
illness and teach them new skills so that they can stand on
their on two feet.
Kelly and Rhiannon will investigate issues which affect young
people’s lives from both groups, share ideas, compare
cultures and learn about life in Calcutta.
